Regional Law Enforcement Academy
The Capital Area Council of Governments Regional Law Enforcement Academy (RLEA) provides in-service training for licensed Peace Officers and the Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) for those who wish to become licensed Peace Officers. The CAPCOG RLEA is accredited by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE), the state agency governing licensure and qualifications for Texas Peace Officers.
RLEA instructors are experienced Law Enforcement professionals who play a critical role in providing needed training to law enforcement personnel. Changes in statutory law, case law, public policy, crime trends and public opinion continuously shape training needs. RLEA courses are designed to enhance the quality and productivity of law enforcement agencies within the Capital Area.
A list of classes currently being offered can be found at CAPCOG Training.
Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC)
To satisfy the region's need for trained law enforcement applicants, the RLEA provides the entry level Basic Peace Officer's Course. The Basic Peace Officer's Course is designed to provide students with the knowledge essential to begin a law enforcement career and prepare the students to take the State Peace Officer Licensing Examination.
In-Service Training
The RLEA provides in-service training designed to fulfill the training needs of law enforcement personnel throughout our region. The RLEA produces law enforcement training courses that not only correspond with all mandated learning objectives set out by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE), but also reflects the current needs and trends of our region. The RLEA continually seeks to provide the most qualified instructors to present these courses.
Law Enforcement Education Committee (LEEC)
The RLEA strives to produce effective and efficient training courses that meet the training needs of the region. The regional training needs are assessed by measuring the results of a bi-annual Training Needs survey by input from the Regional Law Enforcement Academy's Law Enforcement Education Committee (LEEC) and by input from area chiefs and training coordinators. The RLEA is committed to providing these courses within close proximity to agencies needing the training. Regional training assessments allow the RLEA to strategically locate satellite training facilities to provide training near departments needing the training. LEEC Bylaws
